In my early photography days, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, my main hero was Edward Weston, who started his career in the pictorialist style but then rejected pictorialism for the clear, sharp-focused style of the members of Group f/64. I, too, adopted the Group f/64 style, and have generally worked that way. Except that lately I seem to be making some pictures that look sort of pictorialist. So now we'll take a short detour into pictorialism, 2017 style, with apologies to Mr. Weston. Lake Conestee Nature Park, Conestee, SC.

I'm usually not this on-topic, but here's an autumn leaves picture from a camping trip, earlier this week, at Kings Mountain State Park in SC.

There are a lot of new buildings going up in downtown Greenville, SC, and that means lots of these very tall cranes. And, so, lots of crane pictures.

I stop by the "heron overlook" at Lake Conestee Nature Park on a regular basis. Earlier this summer, I took the telephoto zoom there looking for bird pictures, when I found a school of fish lurking off the corner the overlook platform. So I took some pictures of them instead. Herewith, a short series of fish pictures. Lake Conestee Nature Park, Conestee, SC

Celebrating ten years of “On the Cork Board”!

Ten years ago, I told my wife: “When I retire, I want to start a blog like the one Carl Weese has.” Her reply was: “Why wait? Why don’t you start it now?” So, ten years ago today, I created “On the Cork Board” and made the first post. I’ve been at it ever since.

The purpose of “On the Cork Board” is simply to let you see where my art is going by seeing what I’m taking pictures of. That’s all. Please continue to visit. I hope you see something you like.

This spring, my brother Tom bought himself a new telephoto zoom; so I now have his old zoom on permanent loan. I don't find it very useful for "art", but it is kind of fun for taking pictures of the birds and other critters in the back yard. Here's what passes for wildlife photography around here.
